2022 Survey Conference - (It's a Rap)

It was great to see and talk to many familiar faces at the conference, both surveyors and vendors!
I met a lot of nice people from many states, as 33 states were represented, but disappointed in the number of attendees from California.
Only 140+/- from CA out of over 900 attendees, really? This only supports the lack of real professionalism within our own (so-called) profession.
This is one prime reason continuing education would benefit all, surveyors and the public. Aren't we licensed to "Protect the Public".

It appeared the direct Bay Area was well represented by mostly private surveyors, compared to other regions of the state. It was good to catch up with Jim Stein (Contra Costa Co. Surveyor) due to the pandemic, and the current lack of organization in the East Bay Chapter. Always good to catch up with CLSA officers like CLSA Pres. Warren Smith, Pres. elect Kevin Hills, Treasure Joseph Padilla, and Secretary Kevin Nehring.

I was a little disappointed in some of the presentations, but then presenters from other parts of the US definitely have a different style and agenda when it comes to a good presentation. Many presenters simply posted codes and power point screen shots of information, which was better than a bedtime story to put me to sleep after some Vegas fun the night before, lol. A little more interaction with the attendees always goes a long way, instead of preaching to us your thoughts.

Looking at past conference presenters, I definitely have a better appreciation for some. It would have been a great opportunity for CLSA to have joined up with NSPS for a small presentation for those attending and hear directly on the benefits of the upcoming membership relationship between organizations.

I'd like to see future conferences with a better mix of presenters, instead of a one full day with the same individual on similar, yet different topics.

Maybe the conference committee could send out, or online, a questionnaire/survey monkey, on topics of interest for CA licensee's. This years ethics presentation was only 1.5 hours, and easily could have gone longer, but that also depends on the presenter. Ethics you ask? Yes we all need more ethics, and maybe as we move forward CLSA can coordinate various locations on a day presentation on ethics.

Now back to my regularly scheduled program called work.

Peter, you should have been in Vegas and asked questions to the state officers who know.

I wanted to go, but my company wouldn't pay for it. It is cost prohibitive for me to take that expense on personally.
I wish there was an online component to it.

I asked my staff if they wanted to go this year and they declined. They also did not publish the program until very late.

I think the highlight was the last day "Mock Trial" presented by Jeff Lucas and his amateur actors. It was lot more fun presenting a court case in a script written theater piece rather than just describing the X V. Y case.
