It is my regret to announce the passing of an old friend and comrade, Richard Varney LS 5030. I have known Dick for over thirty years and found him to be a great guy, and a top notch surveyor. He will certainly be missed by me, and many that have known him. My sympathy goes out to his family and his son Dennis. After speaking with Dennis this morning, apparently Dick fell to some heart problems. Dennis has worked for Dick since High School both in the field and drafting for Varney Land Surveys. They have since closed the doors, and discontinue further operation.
You may now rest in peace my friend, for there are no more deadlines, no unhappy clients, and no boundaries where you are now.

I knew Dick for many years as well. He did a lot of work on the delta in his later years, which can be a complex area to recover boundaries. Dick was diligent in his research and left no stone unturned in the field. He also put a lot of effort into trying to gather unrecorded surveys from the archives of local firms to scan and catalog, all on his own time and dime. He was known for driving older trucks that he bought at government auctions. I was sad to be told of his passing by another surveyor friend back in February. He seemed to truly love being a surveyor.
