THE POSITION
The Senior Land Surveyor is responsible to plan, organize, assign and review the work of assigned personnel engaged in professional surveying; to perform advanced level professional work pertinent to land and engineering surveying for the design and construction of roads, highways and bridges, drainage, sewage facilities and other projects, map checking, mapping and drafting and description of real property; and to provide responsible staff assistance to engineering staff.
The Senior Land Surveyor vacancy is in the Engineering Services Division of the Utilities Department. Within that division, there are four disciplines: Utility Capital Planning, Water Design, Wastewater Design, and Construction Administration. This position is located in the Construction Administration group. The most competitive candidates for this particular position will have backgrounds in land surveying supporting design and construction of capital improvement projects. Although the position is housed within the Utilities Department, candidates should have a strong understanding of Subdivision Map Act, Preparation and Technical Review of Plats and Legal Descriptions, Parcel Maps, Subdivision Maps, Records of Survey, Corner Records, Monument Preservation, and Construction Staking as it relates to various public works and utility projects including water, wastewater, traffic signals, parks and trails, streets, and public buildings and facilities This position is the designated responsible licensed Land Surveyor representing three City of Modesto departments: Community and Economic Development, Public Works and Utilities.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Three years of increasingly responsible professional land surveying experience at a level equivalent to an Associate Land Surveyor with the City of Modesto; including one year providing technical and functional supervision of assigned personnel.
Training:
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in surveying, surveying engineering or a related field.
License or Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California driver's license.
Possession of a valid certificate as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) issued by the State of California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists or possession of a valid certificate as a Professional Engineer (PE) issued prior to January 1, 1982 by the State of California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
