Alameda County and City of Oakland Reseach

Post by ndoring »

We have a project in the City of Oakland and wish to obtain all the record maps in our vicinity. Does anyone know how thorough the "Alameda County Public Works Agency Search Document" search engine is in obtaining all the maps. We were forced to basically search by street names. Our concern is possibly overlooking some potential records in our area. Any insight would help. Thank you!

I called Alan (maps dept) for this kind of help about 2 months ago , currently there is no solution but they are working on it.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate!!" I see a real problem in gathering record date within our great state. This, is an important task of a land surveyor, and needs to be improved on a city/county level!

Take a look at our GIS map footprints. You can check the corner records box also.

How does a surveyor currently research the surveys in the area? Are there any unrecorded surveys in an archive that can be searched?

Warren, that looks like how it oughta be done to me. I suggest you make the information box able to be moved as it obscures the footprint of the maps as you scroll through the relevant entries. Also I didn't find the corner record checkbox... Nice job, that must've took some time to work up

David,

The check boxes are under Layers.

Works for me - I've got a very large monitor!

There is also a transparency slider, and the ability to change basemaps.

I typically start by reviewing the Assessor's Map, then go to their online service. The previous county surveyor was working on a GIS system for monuments (not map geometry though), but I don't know if it is still operational. Surrounding counties have solved this problem.

Also the Oakland Planning Dept has unfiled lot surveys for many parcels.

I'm not aware that anything has changed.

City of Piedmont requires a visit to their public works dept.

At first that Records Research link wasn't working well for me. It takes a little bit of creative search tactics to get what you want, and it will work when you discover the magic search words.
