Opinions (Static GPS)

Post by laveyb24 »

Came across a problem I have never had before today. I used 3 GPS units for fast static. 2 were 5700's 1 used very often for static the other not so much and 1 5800 using survey pro which has also been used a lot for static work. At the end of the day got all the files download and ready for import into TBC. Upon importing I noticed 1 of the 5700 files was coming in with a time stamp from 1996 and the same with the 5800.

Any ideas from the community would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks steffan, that was a fantastic thread!! I learned that the old Trimble receivers are still viable (albeit slightly more complicated), my old TGO CD that I've been using as a coaster may still have some value and I found several solutions for inexpensive new GPS recever solutions...

I haven't owned a GPS receiver for a few years but I have borrowed a few and considered renting once or twice for a choice job. I think now that I may purchase the iGage RTK or OPUS setup, I'm also tired of the recurring Trimble headaches and the huge pricetags. It looks like I could buy 20 or 30 iGage receivers for the same price as one new Trimble R10!

Subject: [unav_all] Trimble R7 and 5700 Firmware issue for receivers with FW less than 2.3

Trimble has indicated that there is a bug in earlier firmware that will cause the 5700/R7 and the 4700/4800 models to become inoperable after the GPS week roll over on 14 FEB 2016.

If you have an affected receiver please refer to the article on our Knowledgebase that explains the issue and how to resolve it.

Installing the latest Trimble Configuration Utility may help as well.

I just used the "teqc" program from the UNAVCO website on some trimble 4800 static session files logged after February 14. The files were converted to RINEX successfully using the week offset setting, so don't throw them away just yet.
