WHERE YOU'LL WORK
The Public Works - Engineering and Transportation Department is organized into six divisions: Administration, Design/Development Services, Construction Services, Transportation, Survey, and the Executive Airport. The Department is responsible for providing engineering and transportation support to City operating departments and divisions and for implementation of the City’s Capital Improvement Program. The Department is also charged with providing oversight to and support of daily Airport operations.
ABOUT THE ROLE YOU’LL PLAY
We are looking for a highly motivated, result oriented professional committed to improving the City’s surveying activities and real property program. The candidate will possess strong leadership skills, engineering principles, and negotiation and administration of contracts with independent contractors. Knowledge of surveying, land law, principles of appraisal techniques, property management, FEMA flood maps, engineering principles as applied to surveying, and property acquisition and relocation guidelines related to state funded and federally funded projects, is expected. Candidates for this position should demonstrate a strong work ethic and posses exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to developing strong, positive working relationships. Public Agency experience preferred.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Duties may include but are not limited to:
· Prepares and approves legal descriptions of Real Property and Right of Way Maps.
· Directs and supervises the review of development plans, subdivision maps, and grading plans.
· Administers and coordinates contracts with professional engineers, surveyors and photo-grammetrists.
· Consults with City Attorney’s office and outside legal counsel regarding preparation, coordination and follow-up involved with acquisition of real property through eminent domain procedures.
· Prepares and supervises the preparation of subdivision maps and Records of Survey of City property and streets.
· Prepares written and oral reports and correspondence to City Council, City Manager and City Engineer.

WHAT YOU BRING
Any combination of equivalent experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would qualify.
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of increasingly responsible survey experience related to public works design, construction, and right-of-way including one year of supervisory experience.
EDUCATION: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major work in Civil Engineering or related field. Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES: Licensed as a professional land surveyor in the State of California. Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California Driver's License

4. Describe an experience in which you successfully acquired the needed right-of-way for a capital project. Explain your role, key challenges, and the lessons you learned from the experience.
5. Briefly describe an example of how you have provided superior customer service.
SELECTION PROCESS
