A SURVEYOR’S CHRISTMAS

by Mike Walters P.L.S.

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through land,

I was digging for a property marker deep in the sand;

My shovel hit a hard surface, I heard a loud clink,

It started to hiss and then it did stink;

A gas line I broke and so I did run,

I ran up the street and into the sun;

The building I found I saw with much glee;

It was Pacific, Gas and Electric or PG&E;

I told them my story and what happened to me;

They said they would go out and have a look see;

So back up the street to the job did I go;

To search for more markers down there below;

At the end of the day I did have success;

Even with the gas line, which caused me such stress;

I went home and plotted all that I found,

All the markers I searched for down in the ground;

I finished my map now tidy and clean,

I sent it to my client, boy I need some caffeine;

Now it's time to prepare for our annual feast,

I mixed up some dough and added some yeast;

A turkey I stuffed and beans I did cook,

As I glanced out my window, I took a good look;

The moon was so full and the outside so bright,

The Christmas lights were on and ohh what a sight;

As I stood there and smiled, I heard the timer ding,

And in the background heard some carolers sing;

The table was set and the family came in,

I know after this feast I need to go back to the gym;

Before we did eat, I said a short prayer,

Thank you for food on the table and my family who care;

After my prayer, I gave the green light,

"So Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."
