Looking for Volunteer (LSIT) on PLSS GIS Project

Post by Sunburned_Surveyor »

I'm getting ready to start work a project to integrate Non-BLM survey records into the BLM GCDB data for San Joaquin County. This work will be done as part of the CCVGPG PLSS Working Group.

I'd like to invite any LSIT that would be interested in working on the volunteer project to contact me. This project would be a great opportunity for the LSIT to:

1) Learn how to use open source desktop GIS.
2) Learn about the Public Land Survey System.
3) Gain experience with boundary research and survey map analysis.
4) Work with the GCDB data and BLM GCDB staff in Sacramento.

If the LSIT had an interest, I'd also be willing to include him in the programming (Java) of some custom tools to work with the data created as part of the project.

I'd also be willing to serve as a professional reference for future employment opportunties or the PLS exam depending on the length and quality of the volunteer work.

You can shoot me an e-mail if you are interested or have questions about the project. (sunburned.surveyor@gmail.com)

I'm not looking for a huge time commitment. Just a couple of hours a week would be great.

Thanks!

Clarification

Post by Sunburned_Surveyor »

I should clarify that you don't have to be an LSIT to volunteer, although this would be preferred. You can also volunteer if your a land surveying student or are pursuing a land surveying career but don't have your LSIT yet.

Hello Sunburned Surveyor,

I shot you an email about volunteering.

Just wondering if it was spammed? I have not heard back.

Maybe you are busy?
