As Chairman of the Mount Diablo Surveyor's Historical Society (MDSHS), it is a sad day which I need to infor those who knew Martin Donald (Don) Marcott (LS 4304) of his passing yesterday, December 26. I do not know of the circumstances, but he had been battling some medical issues which he had briefly discussed with me over the past couple months.
Don was the County Surveyor for Santa Clara County for a number of years, and many of you would have seen him at various conferences, and the MDSHS Exhibits.
He is now up with many other land surveyors, working on the Celestial Baseline!!! RIP Don

I believe Don was County Surveyor at the time of the HPGN survey. Santa Clara County's participation in that survey was thanks to his vision.

My prayers are with his family and friends. It won't be too many more years that I will join him and share old war stories! God bless

RIP, Don! such a Gentleman!
I started my career in San Jose as he was the County Surveyor. He was very helpful, always answered my questions without any prejudice.
A good man to remember!

I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.

When he prepared the heavens, I was there; when he set a compass upon the face of the depth.

This post got bumped to the top as I had originally had the incorrect date of Don's passing, and fixed.PLS7393 wrote: Sun Jan 11, 2026 8:04 amPLS7393 wrote: Mon Jan 27, 2025 7:09 pm As Chairman of the Mount Diablo Surveyor's Historical Society (MDSHS), it is a sad day which I need to infor those who knew Martin Donald (Don) Marcott (LS 4304) of his passing yesterday, January 26. Additionally, Santa Clara County Surveyors Office and members of MDSHS are working on a Celebration of Life for Don Marcott, and the setting of his Final Point. Details to come at a later date.
