Geodetic History

do follow the link!

very interesting.
I am surprised that I have never heard if this structure before.

interesting point: modern geodesy (a technical craft) is populated with lots of "scientists" that don't seem to promote History such as this...unlike "Land Surveyors" (such as us) that are inherently historians.

Thanks, Peter!

Yes . . . fascinating! But two-hundred bucks for bringing that monster down off the mountain?!

Here's another kewl bit of survey history . . . by Jerold Penry. http://www.penryfamily.com/surveying/main.html

Mr. Penry is a surveyors surveyor! He wrote a fascinating pamphlet Nebraska's Early Geodetic Surveys ISBN 13:978-0-9679041-1-5 Second Edition September 2012. Some of the drawings and photographs are by the author!

Another "historical" fact that I learned from the 1940 census roll, was my late Nebraska grandfather worked as a "land surveying clerk" in Lincoln, Nebraska! Never knew that! The things you learn on Ancestry.com and California Digital Newspaper Collection (UC Riverside).https://cdnc.ucr.edu/cgi-bin/cdnc

Have a nice weekend, all . . .

The article's author was the father of a long-time City of Davis DPW engineer, Art Eichorn Jr. Art Jr.'s wife Peggy was the real estate agent who sold us our house in 1996. Their daughter followed in her mom's footsteps and is a very successful Davis real estate agent today.
