Passing of PLS 4599

Post by 1629 »

Sadly to announce my father: Douglas O. Foster PLS 4599 passed away on 12/3/2019 he was 91 and 9 months (close to his 92nd). His battle with two cancers was suddenly discovered shortly after his 91st Birthday. He was a great father, friend, husband, teacher, mentor, and CA Land Surveyor. He had surveyed in CA over forty years working Private Industry for a Orange County’s finest Civil Engineering / Surveying Firms and for-filled his later years in Civil Service with Caltrans Right of Way Engineering in Districts 7 & 12. He will be greatly missed. The family will be posting a Celebration of Douglas O. Fosters Life for his 92nd Birthday on March 21, 2020. Location and active to be posted after the hectic holidays.

Doug Foster was a gentleman land surveyor - mild mannered and of excellent professional demeanor.

I knew Doug as a hard worker and a family man. I remember him commuting for work from Orange County to Ventura well into his 70s. For those unacquainted, this would be a three hour commute one way by car (although I recall he rode the train) - outside the state of the economy, I never heard him utter a single complaint. As an agency map checker, I reviewed his work product for many years - he welcomed the input and liked to sit down to discuss his surveys.

Doug enjoyed the company of land surveyors. As an Orange County past president, he attended the past president's meeting every January for as far back as I can remember. We will miss him at next month's meeting.

Sincerely,

Dave Woolley
