Historical List of Licensed Land Surveyors

While doing some research on old surveyors I came across the following documents from the California Surveyor General's Office. Attached are two indexes: They contain license number, address, and date of licensure for Licensed Land Surveyors numbers 1 - 1370. I thought it might be helpful for anyone trying to figure out when and where someone practiced. Enjoy.

good information. I have been fortunate to be able to retrace some surveys and find several monuments set by George Bates LS 485. He was licensed in 1905 here in Orange County. Never forget a record of survey map I was using as a reference for job. he stated on the map, circa 1940, "Found 6x6 post that I set in 1906 for the common corner to Lots 8 and 9 blah blah"

the fella does this survey in 1940 and sets some pipes, files a record, and references something he set 35 years before (evidently without a record reference).
The OC had to be so much different. Anyway, thanks for the info. good stuff.

I see a few familiar names in the 1911 list.

LS 78 Randolph Vail was San Diego County Surveyor 1893-1894. He is listed as living in San Jacinto San Diego County. San Jacinto is in what is now Riverside County.

Attached is some info on how the County boundaries have changed over the years.

LS 132 Porter Perrin Wheaton was famous for his 1894 wheelbarrow odometer survey of San Diego County roads.
