Request proclamations from local government. Attached are sample proclamations done last year. We are awaiting the 2015 proclamation and will post upon availability

As is common, City and County Council meetings are on Tuesdays and it usually requires several weeks notice to get on the council agenda. The current resolution came out came out last night (March 16h) and the council meetings are tonight.
The point being, to those 13 people that have viewed the posted resolution, I will donate a $250 scholarship to any chapter that gets the posted resolution accepted at your City or County Council meeting tonight, March 17th, 2015. The offer of a scholarship is real, however, I caution anyone unfamiliar with the process not to inadvertently humiliate and/or embarrass themselves trying to get this before a council tonight (the Clerk will likely think you're trying to pull a prank).
For next year, call the City Clerk's office six weeks prior to surveyor's week (the same week every year..after year) and ask about getting on the council agenda.

She spearheaded a Proclamation of National Surveyor’s Week presented by Mayor Cook of the City of Sonoma (City of Bear Flag revolt fame).
I had the honor of accepting this Proclamation (attached) and giving a brief talk to City Council and a packed room of citizens.
As some of you may know, NGS has asked that we perform some GPS work and sit on Bench Marks . . . so:
Although this is National Surveyor’s Week, they might find it interesting the results of our GPS data on a particular Bench Mark on Watmaugh Road in Sonoma.
July 2014, I “played†with my GPS and performed an OPUS Shared solution on this local Bench Mark that had a good view to the heavens, decent weather . . . and a future bridge replacement project nearby (a purpose). This observation indicated the 1935 Bench Mark may have subsided four inches from 1951 to 2014.
24 August 2014 we had the worst earthquake I’ve ever felt in my 64 years in this County. The American Canyon earthquake and it was only a six-point-oh! My house was a wreck . . . broken glass everywhere. But no structural damage.
Being National Surveyor’s Week a week before (12 March 2015) GPS data was collected again on this same Bench Mark and found that it had moved north-north-west less than two inches and “lifted†the same amount.
Because the audience could “visualize†where this Bench Mark was. they found these cursory results quite interesting. Again I reiterated the importance our profession plays in community and the importance of our profession's volunteerism to monitor Bench Marks due to Federal budget cuts to the NGS. And that was just one aspect of our vocation.
After my presentation - a heartfelt applause for what we do. And that, my friends, was worth wading through a half-hour of citizens pleas to the council.
Should you be so inclined to sit on some Bench Marks with your GPS - please share your solution with NGS.

Yesterday, March 17, 2015 several of us attended the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors meeting where thy passed a "Gold Resolution" proclaiming March 15 through March 21, 2015 as National Surveyor's Week. Attending were Mathew Dudley, new Chapter president, myself, old surveyor, Leonard (Gabe) Gabrielson, new county surveyor and Gary O'Connor, old county surveyor. I attached a portion of the minutes. I cannot find the photo that was taken.

Thanks Sacramento CLSA Chapter/BPELSG member Pat Tami, CLSA President Jay Seymour, and Sacramento Chapter member Paul Enneking, who were on the Senate floor to accept the 2015 California Senate Resolution No. 16 proclaiming National Surveyors Week. Next year will be CLSA's 50th anniversary. Let's get the ball rolling early for increased recognition!
