I'm working on a project for which I need to review some swampland survey maps. The county (Yolo) has copies of many of these, but not the ones I need. The County Surveyor said he thinks State Lands has them; a quick check of the SL site didn't turn up any links to online maps. So, suggestions as to how to get S&O map copies? (Evan?)
Thanks!

They are not online. Our records department is somewhere close to complete in the scanning step, but only for in-house records. They scan each S&O file as one multipage PDF, but many of the files contain documents which do not add to the final record, which is supposed to be comprised of the surveyor's field notes drawing (usually part of the same document similar to a modern corner record, occasionally there may be a separate drawing), the Certificate of Sale, and the Patent.
We do have nearly all of them scanned now and it isn't a lot of work to extract what you need and send it out. Best way is to contact the Boundary Unit supervisor and let him know what you're looking for. Check PM.

S & O Survey
I recently ordered 10 Swamp and Overflowed Surveys and 9 Tideland Surveys. They were received in roughly 10 days at a cost of $28.30 and put on a CD. I was really impressed on the quick turn around of the request. The person I talked to was Mr. Steve Lehman, he was a great help!

I was thinking it odd that S&O survey records aren't in the official books kept by the counties, but then it occurred to me that neither are the GLO notes and patents. I guess having to go through State Lands isn't really more onerous than dealing with the CA BLM online records, which only seem to work about half the time for me. (And today isn't one of those times -- I keep getting "document not found" when I click on a MTP link.)

Host Them Online
I'm sure the Central Valley Chapter would love to host copies of these S&O surveys in our member library for everyone to download at no charge. If you send me the digital copies, I can coordinate with Keith Spencer, who maintains our library.
