Double angle iron RPs ? Anyone found these before?

First time I've run across this. This is in Contra Costa County, along Vista Del Rio Road, a mile or so west of Crockett, CA (near the south end of the Carquinez Bridge).

We found an old PG&E brass disc set in a round concrete post marking a substation property corner. But this mon was found in a straight line between two pieces of angle iron, all 3 about one foot deep. The two verticle angle irons are 5.0' apart. The mon was 1.0' away from angle iron #1, and 4.0' from the other one.

Both angle irons are about 2" on one of the sides. Curiously, one of them (closest to the mon) was nice and straight...not bent or anything. The other one had a smashed in top.

I was tempted to dismiss this setup as being someone randomly pounding in a brace for a fence corner. But a week later, 1/4 mile further to the west, at the intersection of the road with San Pablo Avenue, we found a simlar combination. This time it was a flush wood post in set in a straight line between two angle irons, one smashed top, the other in good shape. This second set was near a B.C. of San Pablo Avenue, that used to be the main State Highway; it could be a R/W point.

So has anyone run across this before? I asked PG&E to run this by some of their old-timer staff and they've never heard of it.

Never run into it, but I'm wondering if they're the remains of guard posts, or maybe something set to ring a Schonstedt. Is there any iron in the monuments themselves?

Probably no iron. Just the brass disc. And I guess it could be some sort of guard post, but then, why so far apart...under unrelated circumstances?
