Birds dying in PVC marker pipes

Thanks for posting this link for public awareness. I've seen dead animals in the bottom of uncapped openings and hollow posts too many times. There are many common items, such as hollow metal gate posts and basketball hoop assemblies (with hollow metal post) that often go unnoticed as small animal traps. These items are attractive to birds as a place of refuge or nesting, but are also unintended traps. It doesn't take much to improve pipes or hollow posts with secure caps, filling with sand/soil/gravel or pinching the top closed.

I just remembered coming home one day and finding our kitten sleeping in the pool leaf net hanging over the end of the diving board. Had he been just a little heavier he would have drowned.
Never left the leaf net there again.
