2009 BLM Manual Question

Post by Tom Herrin »

Does anyone know if the concept of a 'weighted mean bearing' is discussed in the 2009 Manual of Instructions? I thought this had been mentioned (prior to publication) as being a subject that would be addressed in the new Manual, but I cannot find it as being included. I am familiar with and utilize the proceedure - it would just be nice to have an official reference advocating its use for the PLSS.

Overall, its been a slow process digesting the 2009 Manual. While there is much that remains the same as before, there are large sections of the book that are completely re-written. It seems to be mostly for the good, but I find a few sections of the 1973 manual to be more clearly written. Being relatively new to this profession, it would not suprise me if people had the same comments about the 1973 manual when it came out (preferring the 1947 manual instead :-) ).

Thanks Jerry.

The fact that this was in chapter 3 was why I could not find it. I was looking in chapters 5 though 8. Your observations about chapter 3 make sense - much of this material appears applicable to resurveys and restoration work, not just original surveys.
