Utility Mapping

I beleive the utility companies are more cautious after 9-11 since the utilities are considered inferstructure, and if they give information out electronically, it could potentially get into unwanted hands which could potentially be used against the utility company.

Unfortunately with the electronic state we live in, I feel that the freedom of electronic information has gone south.

I have read where some States/Counties require you to show you had USA out prior to digging for found monuments or setting monuments. Like a 18" pipe is gonna hit something.

I was setting a 2"IP in a circular planter in a street in a subdivision. Its down about 12 inches and when I hit it again with the sledge it bounced so I hit it 2 or 3 more times and it just kept bouncing. I got the shovel and dug down and found a 1" PVC sprinkler line. Schedule 40 is pretty strong.

My cousin, a contractor, lived in Goleta for a number of years. He got together with is neighbors to install cable for cable TV. He checked with gas, elect, and water and EVERY utility said they were down at least 30 in. The Elect guy lived down the street and swore to that.
So my cousin rents a ditch witch, sets it for 14 in and hits every one.
