Ric and Jim put a nice story together in the current California Surveyor.
Thanks to both of you for your time in preparing the article.

The good news at the moment is the area of the project has not burned. The main fire is southwest of the Big Oak Flat Rd (Hwy120) in the Foresta area, no homes lost, and south of the Tioga Road. It should hold to the southeast of Crane Flat but things change. I am back home after 5 days at the fire. If the weather holds should be whinding down in the next few days.

Why here, why now?
Cadastrophe,
Appreciate you reminding us that scientists often disagree with one another, but why waste our time trying to impress us with your opinion? We're surveyors, and this thread is about the surveying Berk, Jon, Ric, Marta, Greg, Robb, and myself accomplished under difficult but truly enjoyable circumstances. Find a tree geek forum where someone can make an educated evaluation of your hypothesis, or share your thoughts with Lutz so that he may reanalyze his own theories. In the mean time, I'll be oiling up my boots for another romp in the "plot" next summer.

Nice to know that other professions besides ours also have differing opinions regarding evidence and research. I would imagine that by others sharing their research and findings, all would benefit. The only difference I see is that we all include our names!
Personally, I learn a great deal when comparing my survey, research, findings, conclusions, opinions, etc. with peers and many times find that the truth lies somewhere in the collective efforts.

Do we all include
our names? Reallly? There are a whole bunch of folks who post here, and i got no idea who they are.
I think the handles are cute, and some of those with a handle have other pertinent data in there profiles which lets the reader know who they are. Others don't. There are least two others on this particular thread that this applies to.
As for me, I just can't wait for the press release on all that lovely tree data.
