The cost of documents depends on your level of subscription. Doc's can be as high as $8 each, but you have them instantaneously. You can check your county's coverage on their website. You can also get recorded maps (Tracts, PM and RS), at least for the county's in So Cal.

Note that in the jurisdictions that I've checked, the commercial online sources don't go back very far for O.R. records (often only the mid-1980s), and the scan resolution for older maps is often too poor to allow the numbers to be legible.

For what it's worth, CourtHouseDirect.com appears to use the same digital database as DocEdge -- the FATCO holdings.

Copies of recorded documents I get at the County Recorder's office.

Copies of filed maps I get either at the County Recorder's office, or the County Surveyor's office (in person and online)

In"deed" the county recorders is the best place for comprehensive deed coverage.
Might want to make an appointment with a clerk to go over the "how to" for your recorders office.

Some recorders offices have computor systems while others are still in "Arb" books.

The old lazy way of using Customer service at the title company, is almost a thing of the past. bummer

We use Docedge but it does only go so far . . . .
