National Surveyors Week

Well then, I was trying to stay away from this butt . . . . .

Land surveying is a very tough profession. Every one of us who are land surveyors, "professionals" liscensed or not, are a special breed. Like Bull riders, there are very few of us who will work harder, work more hours and get paid less. We subject ourselves to scrutiny of critics, the harshness of weather and the toils of math calculations.
We are thought of as beer drinking scallywags that block traffic during rush hour and are ONLY a necessary evil to all construction projects.

Yet we perservere. (we may not be able to spell) but we do communicate.
Lets us remind America that other than lawyers, Land Surveyors, are the most elected Presidents of Our United States.

We have objective minds, always looking for the truth.

Sad thing is . . . I've been liscensed for over 25 years, yet I didnt realize there was a "Surveyors" week.

Well here's to my L.S.brothers . . .
may good PDOP be with you,

may you angle be true, and your stakes be straight.
may you research be easy and you clients pay well,

"My Surveying Brothers" Also refers to My Surveying Sisters as well.

A Bretheren of sorts for sure.

Ps, this also must include our surveying "Robots" may they also serve well

Rob,

My guys are going to staff a booth at EBMUD headquarters in Oakland next Monday to promote Surveyors week. It is a combined celebration of Surveyors and Engineers week (notice which one goes first) and to be equal, our display is not on the actual week of Surveyors or Engineers week, but at least we are doing something. Things are a bit scaled down this year due to the budget, but it is better than doing nothing. We are going to have a display on a new Robotic survey monitoring system at one of our dams, the stereoscopic viewer, some aerial photographs and maps, a Surveyor testing the Engineers to see if they can run a level, that kind of stuff.

I have scheduled a pro-bono project that will take most of the week... "pay it forward"

Part of that problem Bob is that "Surveyors Week" use to coincide with the CLSA Conference. The exact same week, so how could the professionals, who would support this be able to when they were attending the conference? I think it is great the Califorinia has changed to join in with the timeframe for "National Surveyors Week". Last year was the first year we joined the national recognition.

In the past, the Mount Diablo Surveyors Historical Society has had a display set up at the City of Hayward promoting "Surveyors Week", so some displays have been created in the past. A neat display item is to enlarge the Proclamation which is signed by the govenor.

BTW, last year we discussed the issue of auctioning off the signed proclamation by our Govenator? What ever happened to that?

That could also be a great artifact for the Mount Diablo Surveyors Historical Socitey to have on display at future displays, hint, hint.

What will I do?

I volunteered and am participating as an instructor for the CLSA - Channel Islands PLS review course. My way of paying back. I took the course last year and it was instrumental to my study plan in obtaining my license. It is a very rewarding experience.

I also recruited 5 of my staff who will be taking the LS test for the first time this April. They are taking the LA Chapter review course (closer to home).
