I have an odd request but you guys are probably the best source as you’re scouring all over the state. I belong to a group of radio control car racers and we do ‘speed runs’ which are just what they sound like....â€flat out, how fast will it go?â€
Our problem is where to do it. The speeds range from 80 to 160 mph (that’s REAL mph) so we need 3/8 to 1/2 mile of VERY smooth, level, ‘no bots dots on the line’ pavement which has low traffic so we can work with the local jurisdiction to close or control the traffic during our runs. We have used drag strips but they have a very sticky surface which surprisingly doesn’t work well for us. We’ve also looked at using airstrips but the FAA makes it difficult and those which could be used just aren’t that smooth.
There’s got to be some road somewhere that will work. It doesn’t matter where it may be, we’d likely drive there to be able to use it.
Thanks in advance

Gary: for a number of years we brothers did pit for a couple of different local race teams, but they have mostly retired: they are just builders and tuners now.
When we get settled down at the beach house we will go out and see what is happening at the shops... a few out of town racers will be making last minute mods and hanging out needing help.
More fun to just be a hanger on, then we can sleep in and head South on race day and find a good spot to watch them all fly by... there are many good highway stretches and adjacent rough spots that are an easy walk from the highway. all my off road rigs are up here now, so we just see the easy access... but that is Way Cool!
Tech Inspection the day before the race is a major event by itself. all the racers go thru town and many vendors...
nothing like it!
PS: tell me where I can see a RC Car doing 160! THAT would be Way Cool!
