I have an old trimble 4000SSI that has been wonderful to use for years. Very recently, the rover unit has been draining the "cam-corder" batteries, 3 to the 15 minutes of use. The young cats at trimble are not familiar with the old 4000 series, and their response is simply to "upgrade"
Does anybody have any ideas where this sudden power drain may be coming from.
1. new cam corder batteries.
2. Checked wires for shorts.
3. tried different batteries.

Uuuhhh Good... that 4000ssi was old when I was working for you.;-)
Seriously, it sound like the internal workings are finally giving out. I think Marcelino Rodrigues is still working for Trimble. He would be the only one in Tech Support who remembers those things. Do you still have the HP3810?

Duh cold reboot
We are trying a cold reboot also known as hard reset.
Interesting to note that this is recommended for all gps brands and units monthly, in order to clear ephemeris and sift out annomolies.
i will keep yall posted if this clears the problem

power port discrimination
After much ado, we discovered that power cables for the old 4000 units, switch as each camcorder battery discharges. This simply was not happening with this old wornout unit.
As a quick resolve, we are changing power source and cabling to a single connect. (same as a base unit)
This is a cheap effective solution until the unit can be repaired.
I dont know how many of Y'all use the old trimble 4000 units these days.
I thought a quick post may help those who still do.
Thanks
