As I am a retired land surveyor with over fifty years experience and have California license still active, I would like to offer free services to students and/or surveyors free tutoring and/or simply help with answering questions relative to surveying. If I can help (or can help) you can email me at
pls5528@gmail.com
Just simply trying to give back to the profession I love.

Mr. Walters,
I see that you are in Oregon. Have you contacted the geomatics faculty at Oregon State University to see if they would be interested in leveraging your many years of experience? I can provide specific contact information, if you are interested?
I too am retired after 47 years (my number is about 150 higher than yours), but still wanted to give back to the profession. Because of my work experience, I got involved with the American Association for Geodetic Surveying, which has been very fulfilling. Maybe you could contact NSPS to see if you could be involved with the Certified Survey Technician examinations? Perhaps you could produce some YouTube videos on topics you feel most qualified in?
Hopefully someone(s) here will take you up on your offer. Congratulations on your long professional career.

Thanks for your comment. When I came up to Oregon I thought about taking the test. I read the ORS laws relative to surveying along with other Oregon specific publications. I decided it wasn't worth the effort as I don't ever intend to go back to work full time nor open up shop ever again. I too was a member of the AAGS for some time as I have a background in Geodetic work (before GPS). It would actually be ideal for me to help someone perhaps enrolled in a survey program. I have a lot of information and plenty of notes and books which would help a student with just about any aspect of surveying. I am getting bored walking the dog?
Happy Thanksgiving

That is a great idea Michael!!! Depending where you are in Oregon, have you contacted OIT to potentially volunteer or offer your knowledge to the students? Does either program have guest speakers associated with any courses?

Awesome, thanks for the offer.
We have a student worker program in our agency, I will share your information with our interns as they come through if you don't mind.

I actually am on a tentative schedule as a guest speaker at Umpqua JC College. I was was actually hired teaching there for a Plane Surveying 2 class this quarter, but had to give it up due to having to have another back surgery. I made the transition smooth in that I created an extensive PDF file of notes, sample problems, tests (with answers) for the substitute young teacher and am on on call for any questions she has in the near future.
OIT is perhaps the best program in the State and they appear to have things under control pretty well from what I can gather. Thanks Keith
