California Public Records Act

There was some recent discussion on the California PRA. I was involved in a major case in National City where the city destroyed evidence (spoliation) and refused to provide me with documents I sought under California PRA law. They fought this all the way and it resulted in a published decision. In the end the city had to cough up $1.9M for its refusal to follow the law. If anyone is interested I attached the lower court ruling and the appellate ruling. I am the consultant and expert cited in the decision and I am the one they refused to give the information to when I asked nicely.

There are many lessons to be learned and they are expensive ones.

It's significant that the City paid $1 as a nominal fine, and $1.9 million for attorney's fees for the successful litigant ...
