Survey Division Manager -- Southern CA

Job location is flexible in the Southern California area.

Overland, Pacific & Cutler, Inc. is a dynamic, professional real estate services firm that provides a full complement of land and right of way services. Our project management team has immediate need for an experienced Survey Division Manager.

OPC has acquired a substantial back log of land surveying and right of way engineering work, and is highly interested in building a long term sustainable survey department consisting of 4-6 staff members. The Survey Division Manager will have full responsibility to build a strong ROW Survey Division to support OPC’s ongoing clientele and projects. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, focused and energized to hire, train and manage staff for a growing division as well as pursue new work and clientele. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate who has the experience and drive to take a lead role. The position will be working directly with project managers of top engineering firms with daily face-to-face contact contributing to substantial transportation, rail and design-build projects.


Responsibilities Include
• Hire, train and manage staff
• Build field surveying, drafting, and office calculations protocol and procedures
• Prepare and present engineering/survey proposals
• Promote and market engineering/survey services


Essential Duties of ROW Survey Division
• Field boundary, topographic and construction staking surveying activities
• Preparation of tract / parcel maps, records of survey, ALTA maps, appraisal maps and other subdivision maps
• Preparation of legal descriptions, plat maps and deed covers
• Management of approximately $2-5 million dollars of right of way engineering work through staff and sub-consultants
• Mapping through AutoCAD and Microstation meeting local agency / Caltrans standards
• Office survey calculations
• Expert witness work
• Adverse title research and analysis


Skills & Knowledge
Solid understanding in the following areas:
• Business practices and wherewithal
• Marketing and proposal preparation
• Staff and project management
• Caltrans requirements, appraisal and final right of way maps
• Right of way, property boundary, and easement principles with respect to Caltrans requirements and Brown / Robillard / Wilson literature
• Subdivision mapping and mapping closures
• Title research
• AutoCAD and Microstation software


Experience & Education
College Degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics Engineering or Civil Engineering preferred
5+ years within the construction, engineering, surveying, and/or title company trades


Designations & Licenses
California Professional Land Survey (PLS)
