Has anybody heard anything about the Conference this year?

I would like to be able to plan which conferences I'll be able to attend this year.

It is hard to justify a conference request to management without a published agenda.

I have been wondering the same thing. The location might be a challenge for some. Is there an agenda or speakers lined up?

having the same issue with the CSU Fresno Conference as well, which is just around the corner.

I received the attached yesterday. It appears the presentation committee is behind.

It is in Sonoma County, which is sort of a destination stretch from local transport facilities. Seems like an odd location. Guessing NV is not coupling with CA this year?

I am sure everyone is aware of why the conference is being held where it is, an obscure distant hotel, that is difficult and costly to get to. Anyone going will have to rent a car.

It is 6.9 miles away from the offices of AMS (Dorothy's office) and the location was selected because the 50th conference was intended to be for the benefit of the former Executive Director. No consideration was given for the membership for, as usual, their needs were not considered.

wow, that's a 180 from what I heard. the membership majority asked that it be held where it started in Celebration of the 50th. Personally I think it should move each year to various places around the state. i.e. Redding, SD, Sac., Palm Springs, Santa Rosa, etc. This might draw members to attend at least once every 3 or 4 years. Believe it or not, but for some of us, LV and SD is not that convenient to travel to.

As to the "membership" making such a decision, it is probably the same seven members who have made these decisions on behalf of the so-called membership. The same ones who have been running the association. Hopefully that will change as we move forward.

The conference is 58 days away and where are we at? Where are the members who wanted the conference in Santa Rosa?

We do not have even one speaker or one program setup.

The Board of Directors, the governing body of CLSA, voted to:

1.) have the conference without NALS (Nevada) so we could focus on California land surveying/surveyors. This conference is to celebrate the 50th year of CLSA.

2.) to have the conference in Sonoma. The idea was to celebrate the 50th anniversary where it all began in 1966- Sonoma County. This was a deliberate nostalgic choice.

The fact our former Executive Director is from Sonoma County was not part of the discussion. In fact, the Board of Directors voted to make Orange County the second choice if there were logistic issues i.e. finding a hotel to accommodate the number of people anticipated.

As a Director, I understand there may be some minor inconveniences in travelling to Sonoma. However, I personally like the idea of paying homage to those that started CLSA in 1966 by having the conference in Sonoma. Also, for those that have never been to Sonoma you are in for a treat. There are many beautiful attractions . After all, it is wine country- who doesn't like wine?

I hope many of the California surveyors will attend the conference. Especially this year, our 50th year. Unlike most conferences, I am taking my wife so that we can spend some time enjoying all that Sonoma has to offer. I hope other members will take their spouses to this year's conference. A business expense and a nice getaway - what could be better?

We have a tentative slate of excellent speakers and programs which I am anticipating being published by February 1st. Members will have plenty of time to make their arrangements. We know the dates, mark your calendars and schedule the time off. You'll not be disappointed.

I take exception to your comments on the Conference. You missed that the area has become a significant Beer Tourism Area, as well! With Bear Republic, Lagunitas, Third Street Ale Works, Cooperage, Redwood, Anderson Valley, Napa Smith, Moylan's, and, of course...Russian River, the area attracts Beer Tourists from all over the world.

Ian's correct! They have some great beer pub bus tours that will take you to them.

I'm looking forward to both the beer and the wine! Oh yeah, and of course the educational opportunities that are sure to abound at the conference itself.

The 2016 CLSA Conference March 19-23, 2016 is only 7 weeks away, and I have yet to receive an email or snail mail about it. Attendance will probably be low because of the location, late planning, and lack of advertising. Perhaps the conference price should be less than in past years.

That reminds me of the motto of a bar in Anchorage (used to be there in the 80's, assume it still is): "We rip off the other guy and pass the savings on to you!"

Hopefully we get something soon. The way our training budgets are shaping up, it's getting more and more difficult to put in a justification without an agenda and cost.

Usually something like this needs to be lined up at the beginning of the year to have any chance of being approved. The longer it takes, the lower the attendance is likely to be.

Well it's February 5th and no conference information yet. What gives?

If you opened the link for NALS AND WFPS conference their main office is in Santa Rosa is that assoicated with Dorothy? Very interesting!!
