I'm putting together a filing package on an R/S...

I need to set one monument. I haven't set it yet. The preliminary copy of the map shows it as set although it isn't yet. I will set it before delivering the final Mylar map. I will notify the County Surveyor that it isn't set yet in the transmittal letter.

I've always set the monuments first then filed in the past but I want to get the ball rolling on this one.

That shouldn't be a problem, right?

You'll be stamping preliminary on your submittal, right? You may be overthinking this (or just being conscientious), but you'll have an opportunity to update your description of the the character of the monument, if necessary before you submit mylar. I don't see it as big deal, and surmise it happens all the time in the interest of keeping different surveying tasks going concurrently.

I wouldn't show the monument on the preliminary survey, but you could tell the checker that you will be setting the appropriate monument at that corner and showing on your future mylar submittal. If they want to see it prior, tell them you will send them a pdf prior to making the mylar.

I feel you are fine as is. We do that very thing often because we like having one more set of eyes check our boundary before putting a monument in the ground.

Once that first check happens and they have no issues with your boundary, set the monument and update the character on the map.

I've seen several maps were monuments were called for on the map, but never set. I'm not a fan.

If someone else is working in the area and the County Surveyor gives them your prelim copy, they could be looking for a monument that doesn't exist yet. That is a pain for people.

But, there is nothing wrong with showing on your submittal what you are going to set. Just be sure that when you send in the mylars that the monument is in fact set. And I would think you could do that.

Same here. As long as I'm confident about the location and character of the monument to be set, I show it on the draft submittal.

Here in Ventura County it's not an uncommon practice in my experience to set the monuments after the R/S is recorded. I like the idea of setting them before, so at the very least the description will be accurate. Regrettably that has not been the norm here.

Please set the monuments. I had bad luck with a few "set" monuments in the last few weeks. Filing dates in 2006, 2009 and 2013. The calls included lead and tacks, Wells, #4 rebar, IP's, and spike and washers. NONE SET!!!

This is the first time I filed an R/S or Corner Record without setting the monuments first. Usually it's the other way around, I'm trying to catch up on the mapping.
