I'm currently planning for the CCVGPG Spring 2013 Meeting, which will be hosted in Stockton on April 19, 2013. This meeting will focus on municipal GIS. (You can learn more about CCVGPG here: http://www.ccvgpg.org/events.shtml)

If you would like to speak on a topic at the meeting, or are interested in attending, please let me know. (You can e-mail me at lblake@ksninc.com or sunburned.surveyor@gmail.com) There is no charge to attend, and my employer, KSN usually provides the meeting place and lunch. I'd love to have more than a couple of surveyors in attendance at the meeting.

Just curious, but what is CCVGPG? I clicked around on the web page and didn't see a definition of the acronym. CA Central Valley ???

ABOUT CCVGPG

The California Central Valley Geospatial Professionals Group has a focus on improving the practice of GIS in the California Central Valley.

The California Central Valley Geospatial Professionals Group members include cartographers, mappers, land planners, and land surveyors. Membership in the group is free, and is open to anyone who works with geospatial data as part of their work, education, or hobbies.

The group has three (3) goals. The first goal is to provide opportunities for increased collaboration between geospatial professionals working in local companies and organizations. The second goal is to provide valuable education on the latest tools and trends in the geospatial professions. The third goal is to increase awareness of the work that local geospatial professionals are doing, the challenges they face in this work, and the solutions that can overcome these challenges. The fourth goal is to provide professional networking opportunities.

Thanks for the very kind words Dave. I have a deep love for land surveying as a profession, and a strong desire to help surveyors adapt to the serious challenges we face due to changes in technology and business.

I hope my modest efforts will benefit my peers.

The credit for my efforts should really go to all the great mentors that have guided me on my career as a land surveyor, including Dave Dorsett, Bob Beall, Darrel Ramus, Kris Nehmer, and Brett Setness, and many others who patiently answered (and continue to answer) my questions on these online forums.

My opinions are strong, and can sometimes cause ruffled feathers. I suppose that is one character trait that makes me like most other surveyors. Despite my strong opinions, I try to keep and open mind, and have found my opinion changed on several occassions. Thanks goes to Ian Wilson, yourself, and others on this forum for those conversations. They help me acheive a more balanced perspective.
