We had a TSC2 screen go out too, along with other Instrument compensator failures.

What we were told on the screen was "Oh, there was a service bulletin on that, if that had happened within a year of the warranty expiring, we would have covered it."

Generally, we have not had as many hardware issues with the Leica 1202 Robotic total Stations and controllers.

I have been using the Ranger brand of data collectors for 15 years. I never had a screen go out.

I've replaced my FC200 screen once in six years. The part is around 50 bucks, and maybe an hour labor. You need to re-evaluate your service provider. China doesn't sell anything worth 900 dollars.

I as well have replaced several data collector screens (trimble recon's) after getting quoted $1100 for a shop to do the replacement. It's a fairly simple task and you can order the parts from ebay for next to nothing.

Whatttt . . . your 41 broke? LOL! (The Leica screen works fine and I've not had a screeny thingy problem yet. Knock. Knock.)

I have used several Rangers; TSCE's and TSC2's and I have never had a screen go out on me. Excepting one instance where an antique level fell from a shelf landing directly on a TSC2's screen and shattering it ($900 fix). I think screen longevity is directly related to the user.

The level is fine, by the way.

Brian-I hate it when the pencil lead breaks off and the metal pencil tears the field note paper :-( It costs a penny to fix that.

This happens when using the "data collector" with my Dietzgen Transit.

Replaced Recon screen for under $40.00. Trimble had quoted over a $1000 to repair 7 year old recon.

Removed screws from bottom of unit, found part and part number. Bought part on E-bay from China, waited 3 weeks for part. 10 minute fix. Good as new.

THAT is the way to do it!
