We are working on a ROS, in California, with the North Boundary of the survey being the California/Oregon Border. We have found three consecutive mile posts and will need to set two closing corners (for the California Sections) in between the mile posts (diligent searches have been performed and no evidence of the original closing corners have been found). The question is this: are there any special rules regarding setting corners on the Cal/Or boarder? We don't have an Oregon license and half of the monument will be in Oregon.

If you are surveying and monumenting the border, then you are surveying in both states, and any monuments you set on that line will be simultaneously in both states. Better get someone with an OR LS to collaborate with you on this one.

There doesn't appear to be any surveyor from Mexico who participated in the preparation of the map.

I don't have any experience in surveying sectionalized land, but if I remember correctly from my studies for the LS test closing corners do not control the line they are closing on, but are basically "line only" points.

Does the fact you have found monuments that govern the state line mean that there is no need to involve an Oregon LS? I don't know....

who your client is could be a factor. Private or USFS contract, is under USFS contract discus with the contract rep. But good question.
