Whoa! Hadn't seen that before.

That seems like an outgrouth of the Express Map program Roy Minnick developed for First American a few years ago.

I though I heard that they moved that whole program out of state. Do they have any California Licensed Surveyors employed there now?

Do a search on their employment page for surveyor. Make sure you're sitting down when you do, though.

Here is a posting for a survey party chief for their Santa Ana office. I think that is their main office for the state.

Even though it says party chief, the job description sure sounds supervisory in nature, the type of position more commonly filled by an LS.

It sounds to me more like this "party chief" is a coordinator of unlicensed field crews and licensed surveyors on contract providing rubber stamp services.

Pertinent questions:

1. Who is overseeing the field work?

2. Who is overseeing the research?

3. Who is overseeing the map preparation?

4. Who is overseeing the client relations and determining client needs?

5. Who is overseeing the "party chief"/coordinator?

OK. Time to fess up.

In December I flew down to their Irvine office for an interview. They called me and requested the interview, based on my resume landing on their desk from somewhere. It was a week or two prior to them posting an opening on their website. They were looking for someone to head up their new ALTA division on the west coast and they liked my list of licenses.

I had a one-on-one, 90-minute interview. I had a stellar resume for this position: I've done 50+ ALTAs, published 3 or 4 articles in national publications on ALTA surveys, and presented workshops on ALTAs to title companies in 3 states. Plus, I'm a 20+ year CAD veteran. Slam dunk, right?

They never even bothered to let me know the results of the interview, or the hiring process. A month later I sent him an email. No response.

After reflecting on it, I could see why they didn't want me. I was too by the book. I think it all hinged on my stating that I like to do my own research, and that I have to at least visit and inspect each site. Both of which mean more travel.

Dodged a bullet, I'm thinking.....

They are very particular with their formating. And yes, it's very recognizable.
