I set up a poll to get an idea of what is standard practice by other surveyors. This poll has to do with notifying adjoiners to lands being surveyed. I would appreciate your feedback. I think I set the poll up so that all responses are anonymous.

I let the my client notify their neighbors, but as a curtsy I always knock on the door, tell them what I'm doing and ask if I can enter their property. 9 times out of 10 I have no problems. (lucky to date I guess)

Attached is a paper I wrote on Right of Entry for California surveyors, published by LSACTS. It has a sample letter attached, which has worked very well for me in the past, to notify neighbors in the vicinity.

Thanks for the paper. I puts a lot of information in one spot and I also appreciate the sample letter.

I suppose that it is a potentially useful marketing strategy to inform adjoiners or other nearby properties when you've got an upcoming project. I've heard some who've generated a significant amount of work that way.

The way I was operating in private practice, though was to notify usually only when I needed access to or across their property.

It would be intertested to include, rural vs urban. Rural areas proably not as often.

After a ROS is completed, I might contact the neighbors by mail letting them know that a survey has been completed, to drum up more work. It's worked in the past.

Definately a useful letter Larry, except I would attempt to have kept it to one page, for simplicity to adjoiners. Seems a lot on aquiring research info from them.

One little item I picked up on was the use of "ribbons". I thought surveyors use flagging? Ribbons are something I find and place on a present, lol.

Has anyone stapled their business card to the laths at front corners?
