3/4" Brass Tags

Do you use these? Do you have one to spare for a collection?

If so, the Mount Diablo Surveyors Historical Society would be honored to receive one for a new collection. To keep with the theme of our exhibit at the upcoming CLSA/NALS 2010 Conference, would you please take one to Reno and deliver it to our booth in the Exhibit Hall?

If no one is at the booth, please drop it off in the "Donation Box" and we thank you in advance.

Hmmm...it's not clear whether you're soliciting tags for a durable collection, or trying to drive attendance at the convention. For those of us willing to donate a tag but not planning to be in Reno, can you clarify?

Just promise there won't be some guy calling me later that they found my tag in Fremont somewhere, but I didn't file anything!!!

I do believe I am proud enough to set my own tags, which I have a couple thousand of, lol. Besides, your #7809 will be to shiny for me to use, lol.

Why would anyone have a "collection" Why would someone remove or collect tags ??? Are these considered obsolete now ? I'm a ghast !!!!

How about substituting photos of some random tags as demonstration of "how survey monuments are marked" Ya only need a couple of real ones ???? I'm confused about this. . . .

MDHS must be preparing some sort of display of tags. I think that's the purpose of this. Keith would know more of course.

Keith I have a few tags from older pipes in SM county I was unable to reset or I replaced with a new plug over the years that I have sitting in the truck - if you are interested in a few tags from some of the dead guys out here.

I'll mail one of mine.

I have a piece of wood made to look like a old west store front with tags I've collected over the years. Mostly working for the LS's. I'll include a pic.

I think you will find that you can order anyones tags from a supplier without any questions asked.

Thanks to everyone who brought a 3/4" brass tag, or other type of washer/tag to the 2010 CLSA/NALS Conf. in Reno. I came home to find a stack of envelopes with six additional 3/4" brass tags too. A bunch of you said you forgot, and will drop one in the mail to me, I look forward to receiving them on behalf of Mount Diablo Surveryors Historical Society. I hope all in attendance of the conference enjoyed our display with this years theme of "Monuments".

All of you chapter representatives will be receiving a reminder note as the next board meeting approaches too.

To answer your question Dave, so far the lowest number tag donated is . . . RE 682 (JF Davidson), donated by Ian Wilson from a job he did, and perpetuated an old hub and tag. So who has an older tag? I challenge you, heheheee! Let me inform you that the Mount Diablo Surveyors Historical Society has a collection of artifacts from Albert Givan, RE 001. Included in the collection is his original seal to make impressions on documents, along with his original certificate from the state!

Davidson was business partner to AC Fullmor, who served as Riverside County Surveyor in the 40's(?).

Received a brass tag from Greg I., but then he is a member of MDSHS too.

I still owe you mine. How about I also send you some original wood hubs from Curt Brown's private collection? He gave his entire collection to me including the 4 that are shown in his boundary control book. I donated one to the recent CLSA conference.

I might have one with his original tagged 3 x 5 cards that I can send you. I also have a few stones he gave me but they won't ship well.

PS, I also owe you one of Curt's tags. I will locate one for you.

PSS, Don Wilson mentioned that he got to meet you at the conference. He had some kind words. Thanks for the hospitality extended towards him.

MDSHS would be honored to receive a donation of any artifacts from Curt Brown. We are a non-profit org. so all donations are tax deductible. Save the stones and I will pick them up from you in person, hopefully in the near future.

Oh great, Don is talking about me too now, lol. He and I go back 10 years or so, and you should have known, cause you know how I roll. (Or is that you know how I pour, heheheee!)
