I think I'm losing my mind. I can't use the "search" tab to find posts/keywords that show in threads older than a few months. Am I doing something wrong?

Seems to work OK for me this morning, but I've had inconsistent problems with other parts of the website since they updated it. Try again, checking the spelling of your search term(s).

OK, for instance, when I type in "easement" I only get 5 threads. Am I doing something wrong?

I tried a variety of terms. The oldest posts that come up are 11/14/09. Maybe it only searches back 2 months. That would be unfortunate. It used to go back much farther.

Blake suggests using google to search the archives.

This may be on the old version of the web site and I do not know how long CLSA is going to keep the old site up.

I think CLSA needs to create an archive for these older forum posts as there is a huge amount of helpful information that has been discussed in the past. I hope they don't let the old posts disappear completely. If many had known that by creating the new site, we would lose our old forum posts, I'm sure there would have been a lot of resistence. The new site is great, but CLSA needs to save the old posts and provide a way to search and access them.

What do you mean by "search the archives?" What archives?

The old posts, from before the CLSA site changed recently, do not come up in a search on this site. You have to go to Google to get to the old posts.

Sorry, but I don't understand the mechanics of what this means. I'm very familiar with Google. So, using the example from Ben, you just type in "easement" in the Google search bar and that's supposed to magically rummage through the CLSA archives? That's going to bring up 10 million hits or more. Sorry for being dense, but I don't get it.

The mechanics of how to do it are in the link that Steve posted above.

Use the "Advanced Search" option in Google. At the bottom of the "Advanced Search" form where it says "Search within a site or domain", enter www.californiasurveyors.org/

Then in the "all these words" box, fill in your search term/s. Your 10,000 responses will be reduced to just hits from the CLSA forum pertaining to your search term/s. Hope this helps!

So we need to jump through these extra hoops, why? This is the only forum I use that has this issue. Why can't someone just go into the program and fix it so it works right?
