Field Radios
Does anyone have radios they use in the field that they would recommend? We currently use Motorola AXV5100's and they've been quite dissapointing compared to our old (huge) radios. We're looking to change. They need to be light weight, last a day or two on a charge, sound clear, have a 2 to 3 mile range, have a remote microphone, and of course not cost a fortune.

We use cheapo's from radio shack. The ones that will work using store bought batteries, rather than rechargables, seem to work better.
Just keep new batteries on hand.
As far as range, the 5-mile rated ones will carry 2 miles in foothill country.
For noisy const. sites, I add an ear plug for the solo rodman,
good luck
