I am looking for coordinates of the Mt Diable Initial Point. The only coordinates I've found are from GLO: nearest 1 second Lat & Lng.

Thanks,
Stan

Thank Robert - PID HS5120 is the original Diablo control point. According to the historical society, the 1852 USC&GS control point was northerly from the initial point. I don't know it that is a few feet or ??

I'm surprised Ian, Dane, or Ric haven't posted.

Have you contacted anyone at the Mt. Diablo Surveyors Historical Society?
Try:

Oops,
My bad, I didn't read your 2nd post close enough. Looks like you already contacted them.
Nevermind.

Ian and Ric are in Socal and use a different initial point.

Are you just interested in the coordinates as a hobby? or are you using the point for a precise survey.

On a clear day I have used the tower up there as a reference backsite myself, but we never triangulated to it.

Like the fella's have said, I'm sure there are internet sites from which you can get info like this.

Good Luck

Stan,
I just cleaned up after dragging by 54 year old self up and down an Oakland hillside staking job. I am sorry to have fallen down on my internet duties. It looks like RobCT got you covered.

The I.P. is inside a building at the top of the mountain. It seems to me it's a depression in the rock inside the museum.

Normally you would have to pay the Park entrance fee but we could probably get you in if it's a public service project.

I will be on vacation this week but you can e-mail me at dkaroly@parks.ca.gov
