Given the land description from the mid 1800's, can anyone decipher it? let me know your thoughts or attempts.

"Thence east NE 1/2 East one mile to a Stake from thence South S.W. 1/2 South one half mile to a Stake from thence West S.W. 1/2 West one mile to a stake from thence North N.E. 1/2 North one half mile to the place of beginning."

No field work was/is going to be conducted. What do you think equivalent bearings might be?

Perhaps a nautical spin,ie compass rose?

A lot of sailors and navigators were used for their sextant and compass skills during that period.

As you read some old government notes, you may also see some nautical terms such as "undulating hills" etc.

Thanks for your input. a POBer also had the same answer and a link to a complete listing of all compass points and equivalents.

Now a follow up question. What are your opinions re: whether the bearings given are Magnetic or True?
