Street abandonment, merge and re-sub

A city abandon an 80-foot wide street. My client purchased a parcel, and that portion of the abandon street along the frontage of his parcel. He is approved for a subdivision on the entire property.

To reestablish access, he is offering for dedication (back to the public) a 50-foot wide street (the current standard)

The County surveyor (who checks the maps) request me to show the old abandoned portion of the street, delineate it and hatch it, on the map.
I argue that it has been "resolved" sold and grant "deeded" to my client, so why clutter the map with hatching and extra dimensions.

The Subdivision map act allows for merger and resubdivision so what gives with this County Surveyor.

I would show the abandoned street and even dimension it. I would also use a call out to show that the street was abandoned and by what document the abandonment was done. Cross-hatching seems a bit much, though.

Well shucks,
I guess I will do just that ! Thanks Ian. I'm getting to be kind of grumpy during this economy. Also, with the slow down, city and county employees are trying to justify their jobs by being in the middle of everything.
I really have a problem recieving a red-line which suggests changing something. . . then another which requests to change it back !!

Does this happen only in my area ? or is this statewide ?
