Dean B, from my office, passed the test. It was his first time sitting for the exam. He commuted from Cotati to Sac to attend your weekly review.

Can someone compile a list of the 140 or so new LS's when the Board has the license lookup updated?

I too am interested to see the success of Surveyors I have met and seen in classes.

I am glad that our brief program at the conference was a useful aid in your studies. Hopefully we can continue the program in the future.

Now that you are licensed, I hope that you consider volunteering with your professional association and "giving back" to the community. Volunteering at an examination program is a great way to give back and most people find that they learn more in the process.

May you have a long career and become a life-long learner in all aspects of Surveying!

Two of my staff at Los Angeles County Department of Public Works - Land Development Division got their "PASS" letters.

That now makes four dual PLS/PEs on our Land Development Team, including me. I have three more of my guys to hear from.

BTW, they took the CLSA Los Angeles Chapter study course including the mock exam.

Great job all... I will be compiling an Excel spreadsheet of all 2009 candidates as soon as the BPELS website is updated... Write if you want a copy...

Yeah Larry, Dean and others put in a lot of commute miles to make it to the Sac Chapter classes, and personal effort to pass the exam... Glad it worked out for them... I look forward to seeing all the passing names and review course affiliations this year. I don't recall the stats I compiled last year, but I think close to 50% of those who passed took a LS review course from a CLSA chapter... Chapter LS review coordinators, please send me your class rosters!

Way to go all - especially the 14 from the Sacramento Chapter LS review... We would not be so successful if not for the dedication of: the participants, our facilitator Annette Lockhart, and our fantastic instructors including Jim McCavitt, Bill Ming, Kelly Olin, Jeremy Evans, John Adam, Bill Jackson, & Steve Ourada.

I join my esteemed Class of '96 colleague Evan Page, saying "Congratulations to all the new surveyors!!!!!" This is sooooo different from the ten years around the mid 90's when the pass rates were 10-15% with a low of 1.9% in '98. This board and others were filled with malcontent and disappointment. I like this much better and still smile when I come across my 'pass letter'.

Big thanks to Robert McMillan, Jim McCavitt, Joan Carr, Steve Dean and Tim Pappas for helping the Cascade Chapter provide a successful set of exam preparation classes. Rob and Jim provided the Chapter with some of their study guides and Joan, Steve and Tim did a great job in teaching classes.
As a result, we have at least three successful candidates on the April 2009 PLS. There may be more I haven't heard about yet. Three is great considering we averaged about 9 attendees at the classes and only about half of those sat for the LS at the April exam.
Anyways, thanks to all who helped participate in making the 2009 Cascade Chapter exam preparation classes a resounding success.

Way to go Cascade Chapter! You folks got a late start and scrambled to find instructors, but still managed to help 3 candidates achieve their PLS! Glad Sac Chapter could assist with materials. Any study materials that anyone is willing to share will be used by the CLSA Education Committee to create a template for state-wide PLS review classes.

I put the two attachments together from material I used to pass the exam in 4/2008. The Construction Surveying was my handout for the 2009 exam session I taught at the Channel Islands Chapter course earlier this year.

I provided copies to my staff and they found both very helpful, particularly the Public Lands guide.

I hope others get some use out of this material. This info is compiled from various sources, so I would be remiss if I didn't give credit to the unknown land surveyors out there [and maybe some civil engineers, ;-) ]who contributed parts of the information contained in the guides.

Actually, the fiirst of the new crop was 8578. No, the scores were highest from the applicants who took the Sacramento CLSA LS Review Class... All 15 of them from this year that passed! - Just kidding about the scores... Maybe reverse? from cut score up? Again - KIDDING! I think it may be in order of completed application, or by exam code number. Really, who cares! As long as you like the number you got. If not, contact the Board and ask them to cancell this number, and take the exam again in 2010 in the hopes of getting a better number...

I know there are a few new LS's that attended the conference exam prep program. Were you able to put together a list?

Our review seminar was held from January to April and was attended by both LS and LSIT candidates. No more than 7 sat for the '09 LS exam with 4 successes! They are:
Maren Cartellieri, LS 8606
Teñel Matlovsky, LS 8629
Andrew Doherty, LS 8678
Sang K. Yee, LS 8702

Students from previous years, we have the following for the '09 LS exam:
2008, Mike Stratton, LS 8637
2007, Tim Lackey, LS 8616
2005, Teddy Ohana, LS 8583

We had a similar number of LSIT testers. A pass-list is not generally distributed, but two have contacted me with their results.
These successful guys are Joey Waltz and Neil Hansen.
