Some interesting San Francisco history can be found in HART v. BURNETT, 15 Cal. 530, April 1860. It has a pretty lengthy discussion of Pueblos.

I got the cite from W.W. Robinson's "Land in California." I was browsing a used bookstore in Hyannis, Mass while on vacation several years ago when I noticed this little book. It is very interesting and useful.
